Hayden Valley

sunset

technical info

Nikon 8008s, 35-70mm lens, f11, 1 sec, Neutral Density filter

Comments

Most of the people sharing this sunset with me had their eyes glued to binoculars as Hayden Valley is one of the premiere spots in Yellowstone to view wildlife. On this particular night the sunset dramatically lit up the clouds and reflected in the river below.

Photo Hints

This is a perfect example of when to use a Neutral Density filter. The sky was a few stops brighter than the foreground (river and hills). Even better, there was a natural horizon line that would disguise the edge between gray and clear on the filter.
