This view of Rio del Francés and the glacier itself comes courtesy of a well-placed bridge just next to Campamento Italiano. The campground has a pretty poor reputation (it's dark and not all that pretty) but it's fairly well located—it's less than two hours from Refugio Pehoe. If you have a heavy pack try to find a safe spot for it at Italiano and then join the day hikers for a beautiful hike further into French Valley.
Sadly, I didn't have enough time to head all the way to Campamento Britanico but I have to imagine it's truly worth the effort, if you are in good enough shape, to haul your gear that far for an overnight stay.
